A lot of people believe that to reach upto the level of professional bodybuilding competitions you must be taking non-vegetarian diet. Although meat helps but the above notion is just a myth. A lot of bodybuilders out there are vegetarians. Its true that for bodybuilding you need to be taking good amount of protein. Meat has more protein as compared to the vegetables or other sources. However, it is not the only source and a lot of protein sources are available for vegetarians. Its all about balancing your diet properly. Protein is found in abundance in dairy products like cottage cheese, grains and beans. Whey is the most popular source of protein among bodybuilders and it does not contains any animal by-product. So if you are thinking that vegetarians can't build muscle because they don't get any protein you are wrong.

Some bodybuilders think that eating meat is the best source for other nutrients like vitamins and minerals. This is a misconception, you need more than just meat to fulfill your requirements. You will need to go for supplements to meat your requirement for vitamins and minerals.

Veg diet for muscle building

There are few simple things that you need to understand. You will get energy through food, no matter what food are you eating. Some people think that meat provides energy, this is a kiddish misconception. All food sources have energy, you need to think in terms of your calorie intake. Say, if you find out that you require 3000 calories a day, then you can either meet that requirement through meat or vegetarian food. Another point in favor of vegetarian food is that vegetarian diet is more "cleaner" diet. Vegetarians are more healthy and have lower instances of heart disease or high cholesterol. They also have lower instances of high blood pressure or cancer cases.

There is nothing wrong with a vegetarian diet. As you will build muscle you will start gaining weight and you will start feeling bulky. At the end of the day what matters is how well built you are and not what you eat. Your diet concern should be limited to weather you are getting the right amount of necessary proteins and other nutrients or not. If you are running short on them then start taking supplements.
